Neuro-Chemical Imbalance
Caused by Exposure to Toxic Mold

Exposure to toxic mold is much more than exposure to mold itself. Exposure to toxic mold is exposure to organic poisons e.g. Mycotoxins and (1——->3) β – D beta glucans. These poisons produced by exposure to toxic mold can translocate into the cerebral cortex via passage through the olfactory pathways working their way into the brain and causing neurotoxicity and neurocognitive dysfunction.

Exposure to toxic mold, as shown in the following image, mycotoxins and fine particulates can enter your system through primary and secondary pathways. The primary pathway is through the nose and the secondary pathway is through the mouth via the pharynx (i.e., the space between the nasal cavity and the mouth). After making their way into the nasal cavity, pathogenic molecules travel to the olfactory mucosa (also known as the olfactory epithelium), an area about the size of a dime located in the nasal cavity and into the brain area. Once inside the brain area these toxins can begin to harm the brain in many different, but distinct ways. Therefore, the NCI Screen is a crucial test when a person is exposed to toxic mold.

Toxins & the Brain

Once the toxins enter into this area they are introduced to six different parts of the brain, some associated with the limbic system. This causes dysfunction of the chemicals that power your brain. Once these chemicals become imbalanced the patient may experience anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, fits of anger, confusion, brain fog and short-term memory loss.

The NCI Screen is designed to detect these changes in brain chemicals and in pre and post testing can be used to demonstrate toxin reduction.
